Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (4-11, 1-7 NJAC) fell behind early and was never able to recover as the Ospreys dropped a 69-49 contest to Rutgers-Newark (9-6, 6-2 NJAC) on Wednesday evening.
Raquel Harris-Scott (Pine Hill/Overbrook) led the Ospreys with a career-high 20 points in the game. The junior shot 9-16 (.562) for the contest.

The Scarlet Raiders, who led wire-to-wire in the game, jumped out to a 14-4 advantage in the early going of the first quarter. Stockton cut into the lead on a basket by
Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) and jumper by Harris-Scott to slice the margin to 14-8 at the end of the frame.

Rutgers-Newark increased their lead to 20-13 in the second frame before Stockton closed to within one point. Two more baskets by Harris-Scott and a hoop by
Emily Donzanti (Toms River/Toms River South) at 5:30 of the period gave the Ospreys a chance at 20-19. Stockton then went cold from the field, missing their last eight attempts, as the visitors closed the frame on a 13-0 run to take a 33-19 lead at the break.

Stockton was able to close the margin to nine at 37-28 with 6:45 left in the third quarter on the strength of eight points by Harris-Scott and a pair of foul shots by Wright. But that was as close as the Ospreys would come. The visitors kept Stockton at bay, taking a 50-37 advantage into the final period.

The Ospreys made a final pair of charges, again cutting the lead to nine on two occasions but the Raiders were able to stretch the margin back out. The Raiders outscored Stockton 19-12, on 66.7% (6-9) shooting in the final frame, setting the final at 69-49 in favor of Rutgers-Newark.

In addition to being high scorer for Stockton, Harris-Scott grabbed nine rebounds, five off the offensive glass.
April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point) chipped in with a double-double of 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Donzanti added 10 markers, three assists and three steals.

Faith Ashby led the Scarlet Raiders with game-highs of 25 points and six steals. Hannah Ashby tallied 20 points, with teammates Comfort Akinbo and Dorian Capurso scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.

Stockton's next game will be a road game against Montclair State on Saturday. Game time is set for 3 pm.
