Stockton Holds on for 2-1 Win over Pioneers

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (12-1-1, 4-0-1 NJAC) extended their unbeaten streak to four straight game and held on for a 2-1 victory over William Paterson (5-6-2, 1-3-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Bri Pagnani (Bordentown/Bordentown) tallied the game winner in the second half for the Ospreys.

The Ospreys got on the board first when Madison Dorney (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) tapped in a crossing pass from Susan Porambo (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) for a 1-0 lead. Porambo drove to the net and her pass found Dorney through a maze of players for the early lead.

The advantage lasted all of 14 seconds as the Pioneers knotted the game at 1-1. Marissa Adelman tallied her 10th goal of the season after the visitors blasted to the Stockton net after the kickoff. Lorraine Moffitt sent a pass to Adelman and her goal tied the contest at one goal each. The half ended with the teams getting just one more shot the rest of the frame.

In the 64th minute Pagnani tallied her third goal of the season to break the deadlock. Sydney Williams (Millville/Millville) gained the area in front of the box and sent a pass to Pagnani on the right side. Her shot found the lower left corner to make it 2-1 Ospreys.

The Stockton defense took over from there. At 67:12, the Pioneers got an attempt on net when goalkeeper Jennifer Devault (Mullica Hill/Kingsway) came out trying to clear the ball. Juliann Gee (Cinnaminson/Holy Cross) was able to make the defensive save and keep the game at 2-1.

William Paterson had one last opportunity to tie the contest. With 15 seconds left, the Pioneers had a free kick near Stockton's end line, but Allie Magas (Lambertville/South Hunterdon) was able to clear the ball and help Stockton hold on for the one goal victory.

Devault, who allowed the first goal against her this season, made two saves in earning the win. Brooke Sachau kicked out six shots for the Pioneers.

Stockton will travel to Ewing, NJ for their next match against #7 The College of New Jersey. The Lions are nationally ranked by United Soccer Coaches and the game is set for Wednesday night at 6:30 pm.
