Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (9-4-2, 2-3-1 NJAC) took on host Montclair State (12-4-1, 4-2-1 NJAC)  but came up on the short end of a 2-0 score on Saturday night. Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Heights/Hasbrouck Hts.) led the Ospreys with 3 shots on the night.
 
The Red Hawks scored first on the evening when Oscar Sanchez pout the home team up 1-0. He took a pass from Stefan Koroman from the right side and deflected the ball with his heel into the net, for a 1-0 lead at 10:52 of the first half.
 
The Ospreys had an opportunity for the tying goal in the 15th minute but the attempt was cleared away off a Stockton corner kick. Both squads had an attempt later in the half, but the shots were off target, as Montclair State took the one goal lead into the break. The Ospreys held a 5-4 margin in shots but none on net.
 
Montclair State made it 2-0 just 3:52 into the second half, when Brogan Quigley gathered a loose ball at the left side of the box. His shot deflected off a Stockton defender and into the net for the score. Play got a bit tense in the 54th minute as four red cards were issued, two on each side, forcing the teams to play nine men aside for the remainder of the game.
 
The Ospreys fired their first shot on net in the game at 78:39 when Andrew Griggs (Galloway/Absegami) headed a ball that was knocked away. The home team also had one more opportunity in the 81st minute that Stockton net minder Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) stopped from in close to keep the game at 2-0.
 
Dante Montesinos (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) squeezed off one last attempt with eight seconds remaining for the Ospreys, but it floated high and the contest ended in a 2-0 win for the Red Hawks.
 
Gromitsaris made one save in net. Red Hawks goalkeeper Michael Mejia played the first 54 minutes without making a save, before being replaced by Dean DePinto. DePinto kicked away one Stockton shot.
 
Stockton will play the next two matches at home, beginning Wednesday night. The College of New Jersey will visit Galloway to face the Ospreys. Game time is set for 7pm.
