Jersey City, NJ – Stockton University (13-2-2, 5-1-2 NJAC) notched their 10th shutout of the season, with a 3-0 victory over New Jersey City (7-9-1, 0-7-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Three different players scored for Stockton. Freshman
Olivia Harris (Sammamish, WA/Eastlake) posted her third shutout of this season in net for the Ospreys.
Â
Stockton out shot the Gothic Knights 14-0, with six being on net in the first half. The Ospreys broke through for the first score at 13:27 of the first half, when
Michelle Sander (Ewing/Notre Dame) scored her second goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.
Bri Pagnani (Bordentown/Bordentown) tapped the ball back to Sander after a free kick and hit the net for her second goal of the year.
Â
In the 32nd minute,
Brenna Clowney (Mullica Hill/Clearview) tallied her fourth marker of the season on a rebound goal.
Madison Dorney (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) fired a shot that was kicked away, but Clowney pounced on the rebound for her fourth goal of the year and a 2-0 margin. That would be all the scoring for the first 45 minutes, as Stockton's defense did not allow an NJCU shot attempt.
Â
The Gothic Knights came out of the break a different team as they put five shots on net in the final frame. But Stockton was able to add another tally to the game in the 59th minute of play, as
Dasey DiElmo (Little Egg harbor/Pinelands) notched her third goal of the season for the three-goal margin.
Â
DiElmo pushed the ball up on a solo run and fired a shot to the top right corner for the score and a 3-0 margin. The home team had a chance to put a goal on the board, but the Knights' attempt was kicked away by the Stockton defense, just a minute after DiElmo's score.
Â
The teams would play tight defense against each other the rest of the contest and the Ospreys came away with the 3-0 victory.
Â
Harris made four saves in net for Stockton in earning her third shutout and ninth win of the season. Cidney Lee-Sam pushed away eight shots in goal for the Gothic Knights.
Â
Stockton will have a quick turnaround, when the Ospreys will travel to Chestertown, MD to face Washington College. The game is set for tomorrow with the kickoff scheduled for 1 pm.
