Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (14-3-2, 6-1-2 NJAC) finished the regular season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Rutgers-Camden (5-12, 4-5). The win was Stockton's 14th of the season, its most since 2014 (15). The two teams will meet at Stockton again on Saturday in the first round of the NJAC Tournament.
Stockton took advantage of a miscommunication between a Rutgers-Camden defender and goalkeeper to get on the board just over 12 minutes into the game. The miscue on a pass back to the goalie left the ball rolling toward an open net.
Brenna Clowney (Mullica Hill/Clearview) swooped in for the finish and potted her fifth goal of the season to give the Ospreys an early 1-0 lead. Stockton registered the only three shots on goal of the first half and led by one at the break.
Madison Dorney (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) added an insurance goal in the 61st minute.
Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) started the play with a 20-yard shot that bounced off the crossbar. Dorney got to the rebound and headed it home for her third marker of the season.
LeDonne recorded her team-leading eighth assist of the year on the play. Rutgers-Camden nearly spoiled the shutout five minutes later but the Stockton defense cleared away a shot headed toward the open side and the Ospreys finished with a 2-0 victory.
Stockton goalkeeper
Jennifer Devault (Mullica Hill/Kingsway) earned her fifth solo shutout of the season. Natalie Eberhardt finished with four saves for Rutgers-Camden.
Stockton moves on to the NJAC Tournament, in which the Ospreys will be the No. 3 seed. Stockton will host a first-round game against No. 6 Rutgers-Camden on Saturday (time TBA).
