Glassboro, N.J. – Stockton University (10-2, 0-2 NJAC) played its second straight ranked opponent and fell to #4 Rowan University (9-1, 2-0) 8-2 in a conference game on the road. The Profs reached the NCAA Final Four last season.
The Ospreys fell behind 3-0 in the first quarter but got one back early in the second stanza. Just 1:04 into the period,
Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph's) converted a penalty stroke to make it 3-1. The goal was Morganti's team-high 10th of the season.
With the tally, Morganti became just the sixth different Osprey in program history to reach double digits in goals. She is a perfect 4-4 on penalty stroke attempts this season. Rowan reeled off five straight goals over the next 25 minutes of game action.
With 3:20 remaining,
Casey Cordonna (Barrington/Haddon Hts.) potted her third marker of the season. The goal came on a rebound after a shot by
Devyn Parker (Franklinville/Delsea) was stopped by Rowan goalie Aida Ingram.
Stockton goalkeeper
Niya Calloway (Matawan/Matawan) relieved starter
Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) 16:04 into the game and made a career-high nine saves while playing the final 43:56. The stint in goal was the longest of Calloway's career thus far.
Stockton will play its third consecutive ranked opponent when the Ospreys host #18 Montclair State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
