Stockton Downed by #22 Cabrini in Tip Off Final

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season to Cabrini University (3-0) in the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament finals on Sunday. Stockton worked hard on defense and had balance on offense as 10 of its 11 players scored points in the game.

The Cavaliers, who were ranked 22nd in the WBCA Division III preseason poll, came out in the first quarter and posted 26 points to five for Stockton. The visitors shot 10-20 (50.0%) from the field, that included 5-8 (62.5%) from behind the arc.

The Ospreys shot just 2-15 in the frame (13.3%) and never recovered, although they did stay even with Cabrini through the last three quarters as each team scored 42 points.

Kiley Gelston (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) and freshman Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) scored four points each during the first half but the Ospreys had difficulty putting the ball in the basket and Cabrini held a 35-14 lead at the break.Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) led all players with six rebounds in the half.

The Ospreys tried to make a game of it, posting 33 points in the second half, but they could get no closer than 17 points for the remainder of the contest.
