Stockton Pulls Away in Fourth Quarter for 67-58 Win

Madison, N.J. – Stockton University (3-1) outscored FDU-Florham (1-4) 21-11 in the fourth quarter to break away and win 67-58 on the road. Nine of the 10 Ospreys who played in the game scored points, led by a pair in double figures.

Kiley Gelston (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) led the Ospreys with 13 points and freshman Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) reached double digits for the first time in her career with 10 markers.

Alves grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and Gelston added seven boards. Stockton outrebounded FDU-Florham 46-35, including 15 offensive boards that led to a 15-2 advantage in second-chance points.

The margin never was greater than four in a tight first quarter that ended with the Ospreys facing a slim 15-13 deficit. Stockton trailed 21-17 before closing the second period with an 8-3 run to pull ahead 25-24 at the intermission. Emily Donzanti (Toms River/TR South) capped the spurt with a three-pointer for three of her seven points in the game.

FDU-Florham shot a blistering 9-11 (81.8%) from the floor in a high-scoring third quarter but the Ospreys somehow kept pace with 47-percent (8-17) shooting. Although Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) scored six points of her eight points in the period and Alves added five, Stockton was down 47-46 after three.

Stockton took control with a 9-3 run to open the fourth quarter that built a 55-50 lead with 7:14 to play. Alves led the run with two buckets. The Devils closed the gap to 57-54 with 3:03 remaining, but the Ospreys responded with a game-clinching 8-1 run.

Gelston sank a jumper with 1:29 on the clock to make it 62-55, and she later went 3-4 at the line in the final minute to help seal the 67-58 triumph.
