Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (28-3) capped an outstanding regular season with a pair of victories in a tri-match on its home court. The Ospreys swept DeSales (15-16) 3-0 in the morning and then outlasted Neumann (17-11) 3-2 in the afternoon.
Jocelyn Holobetz (Pottstown, Pa./Nativity BVM) led Stockton with 10 kills in the sweep of DeSales.
Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) filled the stat sheet with 24 assists, five digs, four aces, four kills and three blocks.
Holobetz sparked the Ospreys to a 25-19 win in the first set with five kills.
Charlotte Leon (Northport, N.Y./Northport) tallied three of her six kills during a 25-15 triumph in the second set. Holobetz spiked four more kills and
Haley Green (Springville, Utah/Maple Mountain) notched three as Stockton closed out the match 25-16 in the third set.
In the win over Neumann,
Julie Kohlhoff (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) pounded 18 kills, one off her career high, followed by Leon with 16 kills and
Caity Ullmer (Midland Park/Midland Park) with 10. Kohlhoff also led all players with six blocks.
Sullivan registered a double-double of 48 assists and 16 digs while also contributing eight kills, three aces and three blocks.
Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) scooped a match-high 25 digs and moved into fourth in Stockton history with 1,716 career digs.
Despite seven kills on nine attacks by Kohlhoff, Stockton dropped the first set 25-22. Kohlhoff and Leon tallied seven kills apiece over the next two sets as the Ospreys captured both, 25-19 and 25-17, to take a 2-1 lead. Neumann stayed alive by taking the fourth stanza 25-22 to extend the match.
Kohlhoff spiked three early kills in the fifth set to propel Stockton to a 7-3 lead. Neumann fought back to tie at 8-8 before the Ospreys broke away with a 6-1 run that featured two kills apiece by Ullmer and Leon. The spurt gave Stockton a 14-9 lead and they closed out the match 15-10.
Stockton is the No. 1 seed for the NJAC Tournament and will host a semifinal match against either No. 4 Montclair State or No. 5 Ramapo on Thursday, November 7 at 7 p.m.
