Ewing, N.J. – Stockton University (3-2, 1-0 NJAC) edged The College of New Jersey (2-3, 0-1) 79-77 in the conference opener. 
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) sank three clutch free throws with three seconds left to give the Ospreys the victory.
 
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) scored a team-high 16 points followed by Flanders with 14 points. Flanders shot 5-8 from the floor plus 4-5 at the line and also tied his career highs of six rebounds and four assists.
 
Othniel Nyamekye (Irvington/Irvington) registered a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. 
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) tossed in 10 points for his first double-digit performance of the season. The Ospreys shot 46.8 percent from the floor in the game (29-62).
 
Nyamekye sank two free throws at the 30-second mark to snap a 74-74 tie and put Stockton in front 76-74. TCNJ's Mike Walley answered with a three-pointer to put the Lions in front 77-76 with nine seconds left.
 
Flanders then was fouled attempting a three-pointer with three ticks on the clock and sank all three from the line to give the Ospreys a 79-77 advantage. A TCNJ turnover sealed the two-point win for Stockton.
 
The Ospreys shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half (17-34) and led by as much as nine before settling for a 44-40 lead at the break. The advantage was nine again at 54-45 after a layup by Campbell with 17:24 on the second-half clock. TCNJ then outscored Stockton 19-6 over the next nine minutes to build a 64-60 lead with 8:36 to play.
 
A three-pointer by Campbell later gave the Ospreys a 73-69 edge with 3:39 remaining and the game stayed close until the decisive final seconds, with the three free throws by Flanders proving to be the difference in the Stockton win.
 
The Ospreys will have eight days off before hitting the road again for another conference game, this time at Rutgers-Camden on December 4 at 8 p.m.
