Stockton Unable to Keep Up with Rowan

Glassboro, N.J. – Stockton University (4-4, 1-3 NJAC) was unable to keep up with the top scoring offense in the conference as the Ospreys fell to Rowan University (7-1, 4-0) 94-65. The Profs entered the contest averaging 84.7 points per game, 14 more than anyone else in the NJAC.

Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) recorded her second double-double of the season with team highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Hailee Porricelli (Howell/Freehold Twp.) went 3-4 from three-point range and finished with 11 points.

Emily Donzanti (Toms River/TR South) was the third Osprey in double figures with 10 markers. Donzanti also topped the squad with seven assists and tied with Wright for the team lead at four steals apiece. Stockton was hampered by 35 turnovers that results in 41 points off turnovers for the Profs.

Although they never led, the Ospreys stayed close to Rowan throughout the first quarter. A layup by Kiley Gelston (Washington Twp./Washington) off an assist by Donzanti tied the score 13-13 in the last minute of the period, but the Profs netted five points in 34 seconds for an 18-13 count.

The game began to slip away in the second period. Rowan scored the first nine points before a Donzanti layup halted the run. The Ospreys fell behind by 18 before closing the gap to 12 at 37-25 on a basket by Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) with 2:02 on the clock. The home team then finished with a 7-2 run and deficit was 44-27 at the break.

Although Stockton shot 6-9 (66.7%) from three-point range in the second half, they were unable to rally, trailing by at least 18 points the rest of the game. Wright and Porricelli scored 11 counters apiece to account for 22 of the team's 38 second-half points, but the Ospreys suffered the 94-65 setback.

Stockton will play its last game before the holiday break on Saturday when the Ospreys host William Paterson in a conference tilt at 1 p.m.
