Salem, Va. – Stockton University (8-2, 5-0 NJAC) built an 18-point lead in the first half and rolled to its sixth straight win, 83-60 over winless Maryville College (TN) (0-9) in the first round of the Cregger Invitational at Roanoke College.
With the win, the Ospreys advanced to face host Roanoke in the championship game tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) led three Stockton players in double figures with a team-high 18 points. Campbell also swiped a game-high seven steals and added six rebounds and four assists.
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) contributed 13 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) also reached double figures with 11 points. Stockton shot 14-31 (45.2%) from three-point range. Campbell (4-7), Taylor (3-6) and Ferebee (2-4) were a combined 9-17 (52.9%) from beyond the arc.
Othniel Nyamekye (Irvington/Irvington) scored eight markers and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds while
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) dished a career-high six assists to go with six points and four steals. All 18 Stockton players saw action in the victory.
Stockton outscored Maryville 26-8 over a 10-minute stretch of the first half to open up a 38-20 advantage. Taylor led the outburst with eight points followed by Ferebee with six. The run spurred the Ospreys to a 41-28 lead at the half.
Maryville scored the first nine points of the second half to close the gap to 41-37. The margin later shrunk to three before Campbell nailed three straight three-pointers to boost the lead to 55-43.
Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing) then scored six consecutive points to cap the 15-0 onslaught that made it 61-43.
Stockton led by at least 14 points during the last 10 minutes and cruised to the 83-60 triumph. The Ospreys forced 27 turnovers and registered 16 steals.
Stockton will play tournament host Roanoke College in the championship game of the Cregger Invitational tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
