Camden, N.J. – Stockton University (4-2, 1-1 NJAC) trailed by seven late in the third quarter but outscored Rutgers-Camden (5-2, 0-2) 19-9 in the fourth period to rally for a 60-55 victory.
Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) led the Ospreys with her second career double-double.
Wright finished with team highs of 16 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks and also dished a career-high four assists to tie for the team lead. The senior shot 6-8 from the floor (75%), including a perfect 2-2 from three-point range, and went 2-3 at the line.
Hailee Porricelli (Howell/Freehold Twp.) poured in a career-high 15 points. Porricelli shot 4-8 from beyond the arc (50%) and 3-4 at the stripe.
Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) also reached double figures with 10 points and tied her career high with nine rebounds. Stockton shot 7-14 (50%) from three-point range in the game.
The Ospreys scored the first seven points and built a 16-4 lead in the opening 7:03. Rutgers-Camden chipped away and closed the gap to 17-11 at the end of the first quarter. Porricelli drained two three-pointers in the second period as Stockton stayed in front on the way to a 30-23 lead at the break. Porricelli paced the Ospreys with 10 first-half points.
Rutgers-Camden overtook Stockton with a 23-11 third quarter. The Ospreys faced seven-point deficits twice in the period and trailed 46-41 after three. Stockton unleashed an 8-0 run on three-pointers by Porricelli and Wright followed by a jumper from Wright to start the fourth stanza. The outburst gave the Ospreys the lead for good at 49-46.
The Scarlet Raptors tried to rally, cutting the margin to one three times, but Stockton fended off each charge. After the home team made it 57-55 with a three-pointer at the 14-second mark, Wright sank a free throw and Porricelli followed with two more to clinch the 60-55 triumph.
Stockton will host Ramapo, which is off to a 7-1 start, in an NJAC game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
