Stockton Wins Season Opener 16-6

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (1-0) opened the 2019 season with a 16-6 victory over Arcadia University (0-2) on Tuesday afternoon. Freshmen Jennifer Toal (Pine Beach/Toms River South) and Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.) led the Ospreys with four goals each in their college debuts.

Stockton fell behind 1-0 early as Giovanna Raspanti put the Knights on the board first. The Ospreys responded with three markers, two by Pascrell and one by Danielle Graham (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) to offset another goal by Raspanti, and forge a 3-2 lead with 12:57 left in the first half that they would not relinquish.

Four more tallies by Stockton, including two goals and an assist by Abbey Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) gave the home team a commanding 7-2 lead at the break. Pascrell and Toal scored in the first 2:36 of the second frame for a 9-2 lead before Arcadia staged a brief rally.

The Knights scored three times to slice the margin to 9-5 with 15:46 remaining. Stockton then salted the game away, outscoring the Knights 7-1 the rest of the way for the 16-6 final. Toal tallied three of the goals and dished an assist during the spurt.

In addition to Pascrell and Toal, Yannacone added three goals while Nicole Jandras (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) and Graham chipped in with two scores each. Freshman Casey Shultz (Sewell/Washington Twp.) had an assist for her first career point for Stockton and Melanie Patterson (Jackson/Jackson Liberty) grabbed seven draw controls.

Brooke Hallett (Absecon/Holy Spirit) made her first start in net and kicked out nine shots in earning her first career win. The Ospreys held a massive 53-25 advantage on shots in the contest with 39 being on net.

Raspanti and Julia Imbert led the Knights with two goals each, with goalkeeper Veandra Selby making 23 saves.
