Myrtle Beach, SC – Stockton University (9-0) stayed perfect on the season with a 14-1 win over Lancaster Bible (2-4) in the last contest of the Ospreys' five game southern trip. Seven of Stockton's nine starters had multiple hits and three Ospreys pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts.
JJ Swentkowski (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT),
Joe Pipher (Brick/Brick Memorial) and
Anthony Napoli (Erial/Timber Creek) led the offensive barrage with three hits apiece. Swentkowski went 3-4 with a double, triple and five RBI while Piper was 3-4 with a double and two RBI. Napoli rapped three singles.
Austin Gonella (Beachwood/Toms River South) had an active day with two doubles, two walks and three RBI.
Garrhet Reedy (Tinton Falls/Monmouth) went 2-4 and drove in two runs.
John Perrino (Wall/Wall) and
Mike DeSenzo (Pompton Plains/Pequannock) finished with two hits apiece as well.
Stockton broke open a 1-1 game with four runs in the top of the third for a 5-1 lead. The Ospreys widened the gap with four more runs in the fourth frame and tacked on five more tallies in the top of the fifth for a 14-1 advantage. Nine field players saw action off the bench in the later innings as Stockton cruised to its ninth straight win.
Starting pitcher
Ray Hughes (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) improved to 3-0 on the season with five innings of work. Hughes allowed one run on three hits and fanned six batters.
Gavin Pabst (Manchester/Manchester Twp.) and
James Manos (Freehold/Freehold Boro) each tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Ospreys will return from South Carolina and play next at Wesley College on Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
