Stockton Rally Falls Short vs. Unbeaten Drew

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-2) reduced an eight-goal deficit down to three but could not complete the comeback in a 16-12 loss to undefeated Drew University (7-0). The Ospreys outshot Drew 22-9 during the second half and finished with a 37-22 advantage in shots for the game.

Gaby Ojeda (Galloway/Absegami) led the offense with three goals and one assist while Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.) added two goals and two assists. Nicole Jandras (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) and Abbey Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) tossed in two goals apiece.

After Ojeda and Pascrell gave the Ospreys a 2-1 lead in the opening four minutes, Drew took control of the first half with nine straight goals to open up a 10-2 gap. Jandras and Yannacone sandwiched goals around one tally by the Rangers, and the score was 11-4 at the break.

Stockton regrouped during the intermission and came on strong at the start of the second stanza. The Ospreys dominated the first 10 minutes, scoring four straight goals to get within three for the first of three times in the period. Pascrell, Jandras, Ojeda and Mary Carroll (Marlton/Cherokee) were the scorers.

Drew's Mia Campanale stopped the run of Stockton goals but Casey Shultz (Sewell/Washington Twp.) got on the board for the Ospreys to make it 12-9. After another Drew tally, Jennifer Toal (Pine Beach/Toms River South) found the net to cut the margin to three for the last time at 13-10 with 14:08 to play.

Stockton's comeback try ran out of steam from there as Drew outscored the Ospreys 3-2 the rest of the way to clinch the outcome, 16-12.

Carroll filled the stat sheet with one goal, two assists, three draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Tamara Torales (Basking Ridge/Ridge) grabbed a game-high four ground balls and registered two caused turnovers.
