Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Stockton Edged 11-10 in Overtime

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (5-1) fought back from a 7-0 deficit to tie the game twice in the fourth quarter but ultimately suffered its first defeat of the season, 11-10 in overtime to Elizabethtown (3-4). Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern) paced the Ospreys with two goals and two assists for four points.

Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) finished with two goals and an assist while Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) scored two goals. The game featured two distinctly different halves, with the visitors controlling the first half and Stockton taking over in the second half.

Elizabethtown held the Ospreys scoreless for the first 16:40 while building a 7-0 lead before Ellis finally got Stockton on the board early in the second quarter. Although Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury) and Ellis netted counters in the last five minutes of the period, the Ospreys trailed 8-3 at the break.

Stockton regrouped at halftime and came on strong. Swedlund scored two straight goals and Anderson completed a run of five markers in a row by the Ospreys, closing the gap to 8-6 after three quarters. Elizabethtown made it a 9-6 count early in the fourth stanza before Stockton responded with a three-goal burst to tie at 9-9.

Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) started the run and then sophomore defender Logan Holleritter (Oak Ridge/Jefferson Twp.) dashed the length of the field and scored his first career goal. Anderson followed with his second of the game a minute later for the 9-9 deadlock.

Alex Filbert put Elizabethtown on top 10-9 with 4:05 on the clock but J.J. McKenna (Barnegat/Barnegat) answered for Stockton to tie the game 10-10 with 2:44 to go. Each team had one more possession in regulation but neither was able to capitalize and overtime ensued.

McKenna won the opening faceoff of OT to give the Ospreys the first opportunity. Ellis fired a shot wide and then a turnover gave the ball to Elizabethtown. The Blue Jays capitalized as Scott Nizolak potted the game-winner 1:42 into overtime, with just one second left on the shot clock, to deal Stockton its first defeat of the season, 11-10.

In addition to his first career goal, Holleritter grabbed a game-high eight ground balls and caused one turnover. Goalkeeper Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) made 19 saves. Ruiz has had a double-digit save total in all six games this season.

Andrew Wyatt paced the Blue Jays with three goals while Nick Cost added two goals and two assists. Elizabethtown goalie Tom Mahoney earned the win with 11 saves.

Stockton will be home again on Wednesday, hosting Plattsburgh State at 4 pm.
