Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (11-7, 1-1 NJAC) opened the conference schedule with a spilt with Montclair State (18-4, 1-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Ospreys dropped the first game by a 2-1 score, then snapped the Red Hawks 16-game winning streak with a 10-7 victory in the nightcap. Freshman
Lilly James (Roseland/ West Essex) led the squad with four hits on the day.

Game one saw the tight affair with the Red Hawks plating single tallies in the second and third innings for a 2-0 lead. Stockton answered with a single marker in the fourth frame, courtesy of a squeeze bunt by James. But the scoring ended there for both squads, with the visitors coming away with the 2-1 win.

The second game was a different contest as Stockton exploded for seven runs over the second and third innings for a commanding 7-0 advantage.
Morgan DiVello (Hammonton/Hammonton) and
Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe twp.) plated two runs sandwiched by an error for three markers in the second frame.

A walk, fielder's choice and an RBI by James started the home half of the third inning. After a passed ball,
Liani Ortiz (Marlton/Cherokee) lifted a short fly down the left field line for another RBI.
Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) drove in a third run and an error plated run for the seven-run lead.

Montclair State answered in the top of the fourth inning by sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs to knot the game at 7-7. Five hits and an error accounted for all of the scoring against three Ospreys hurlers in the frame.

Stockton took over the game in the bottom half of the fourth as
Leah McCray (Philadelphia, PA/Merion Mercy Academy) singled and
Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park) doubled.
Ashley Lobell (Cedar Knolls/Whippany Park) knocked in McCray and error scored another run, then Shaw plated James after the rookie had singled and stolen second, for the 10-7 lead.

Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) came on to toss the last three innings without allowing a hit to record her second save of the season. The win snapped the Red Hawks' 16-game winning streak in the process.

Stockton will have a quick turnaround as the Ospreys are scheduled to face Wilkes University tomorrow in Wilkes Barre, PA. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
