Reading, PA – Stockton University (2-1) played its first road game of the season and suffered its first defeat, falling to Albright (3-2) by a 14-11 count. The Ospreys fell behind by five in the first half and could not rally from the deficit.
Freshman
Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.) scored a team-high three goals and added one assist while fellow rookie
Mary Carroll (Marlton/Cherokee) contributed two goals and an assist.
Casey Shultz (Sewell/Washington Twp.), also a freshman, scored once and dished four assists for a team-high five points.
Trailing 2-0 early, Pascrell potted two markers three minutes apart to pull Stockton into a 2-2 tie. Albright then outscored the Ospreys 6-1 the rest of the first half for an 8-3 deficit at the break.
Abbey Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) tallied the lone Stockton goal.
Pascrell and Shultz found the net in the first three minutes of the second half, but the Lions responded with two goals 1:08 apart to reestablish a five-goal margin at 10-5. Stockton tried come back with a 5-2 run over a seven-minute span to get within 12-10. Carroll scored the last two counters of the spurt to get the Ospreys within two with 12:56 to play.
The rally fizzled as Stockton went scoreless for the next eight minutes while Albright netted a pair of goals to make it 14-10.
Nicole Jandras (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) scored her second marker of the game with 4:04 to play and her tally was the last one in the 14-11 setback.
Stockton goalkeeper
Brooke Hallett (Absecon/Holy Spirit) made eight saves in the game. Pascrell registered four ground balls and two caused turnovers to go along with her four points. Carroll supplemented her three points with four draw controls.
Sophie Bass and Ashleigh Tortorice scored three goals apiece to lead Albright. Goalie Terae Mason earned the win with eight saves for the home team.
Stockton will on the road again on Monday for a matchup at SUNY New Paltz that starts at 4 pm.
