Ewing, NJ – Stockton University (13-8, 3-4 NJAC) played a ranked opponent for the second time this season and fell to #11 The College of New Jersey (19-3, 6-1) 17-1. The Ospreys were unable to keep up with a TCNJ team that scored in six of its eight offensive turns.
Garrett DeMarrais (Oradell/River Dell) went 1-2 and scored the lone run of the game for Stockton. Four additional Ospreys singled as the squad finished with five hits on the day.
TCNJ plated three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-0 count. Stockton got on the board in the top of the third. DeMarrais singled with one out and moved to second on a single by
Anthony Napoli (Erial/Timber Creek).
Brendan Doherty (Middletown/Middletown North) hit into a fielder's choice, and DeMarrais scored on a throwing error on the play to make it 3-1.
The Lions pulled away with a combined 14 runs in the fourth through eighth innings. After going hitless for four frames, Stockton loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth on hits by
Garrhet Reedy (Tinton Falls/Monmouth) and
Alex Klalo (Toms River/TR North) plus a TCNJ error. All three runners were stranded as a groundout ended the game.
Stockton and TCNJ will compete the home-and-home with a matchup on the Ospreys' home field in Galloway at 3:30 pm tomorrow.
