Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (13-9, 3-5 NJAC) dropped the second game of the home and home series with The College of New Jersey (20-3, 7-1 NJAC) by a 12-1 score on Friday afternoon.  Freshmen
Brendan Doherty (Middletown/Middletown North) and
Shawne Eldridge (Jamesburg/Monroe Twp.) had the two hits for the Ospreys on the day.
Â
The Lions, ranked #11 nationally, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on four hits. All the runs were scored with two outs in the frame. Stockton answered with their lone run in the second frame, as
Joe Pipher (Brick/Brick Memorial) and
John Perrino (Wall/Wall) walked. An error on a ball hit by
Garrett DeMarrais (Oradell/River Dell) allowed Pipher to score and the visitors lead was sliced to 3-1.
Â
Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring for Stockton as TCNJ methodically ran away with the game. The Lions plated at least one run in all of the final six innings, pulling away for the 12-1 victory. TCNJ pitchers held Stockton hitless from the Doherty single in the third inning, until Eldridge rapped a single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Â
James Manos (Freehold/Freehold Boro) took the loss allowing just three earned runs in six innings of work. Freshman
Matt Zurawiecki (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) tossed the final three innings, also giving up three earned runs.
Â
TCNJ was led by Jacob Simon and Steven Massaro with three hits each, while Tommy McCarthy batted in three runs and scored three times. Matt Volpe posted his fourth win of the season with five innings on the hill. Joe Felipe earned his first save, throwing the final four innings.
Â
Stockton will travel to Ramapo College tomorrow for an NJAC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 11:30 am.
