Stockton Drops Twinbill to Ramapo; 4-0, 12-4

Union, NJ – Stockton University (13-11, 3-7 NJAC) dropped a doubleheader to Ramapo College (16-10, 7-3 NJAC) on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 4-0 and 12-4. JJ Swentkowski (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) led the Ospreys with four hits and an RBI. The games were played at Kean University due to weather issues on Saturday.

The Roadrunners broke open a scoreless game in the opener, with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. That chased Stockton starter Ray Hughes (Forked River/Lacey Twp.), who tossed 4.1 innings and allowed just four hits on the day. Tim Rossi (Point Pleasant/Point Pleasant Boro) finished up the final 3.2 innings on the hill, also allowing just four hits.

Ramapo plated a final run the sixth inning and set the Stockton hitters down the rest of the way, to set the final score at 4-0.

Stockton opened the scoring in the nightcap, when John Perrino (Wall/Wall) scored Swentkowski for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Ramapo answered with a pair of runs in their half of the frame for a 2-1 lead. Perrino scored a run in the third inning for a 2-2 tie, but the home team cam back to take the lead again at 3-2.

Swentkowski plated Garrett DeMarrais (Oradell/River Dell) with an unearned run and Justin Schaff (Toms River/Toms River North) picked an RBI sacrifice fly for a pair of runs. Ramapo answered with two of their own before breaking the game open after the 4-4 tie.

Two runs in the fifth inning, another single tally in the seventh and a five-spot in the eighth frame set the final score at 12-4 in favor of the Roadrunners. Ramapo rapped out 18 hits against five Osprey hurlers.

Stockton will return home to face Rutgers-Camden on Thursday for their next game. Game time is set for 3:30pm.
