Stockton Routs Rutgers-Camden 25-8

Camden, NJ – Stockton University (9-4, 2-2 NJAC) fell behind early, but rebounded for a 25-8 rout of Rutgers-Camden (4-8, 0-3 NJAC) on Thursday afternoon.  Casey Shultz (Sewell/ Washington Twp.) led all scorers with six goals, while senior Gaby Ojeda (Galloway/Absegami) tallied three markers and broke the all-time goal scoring mark for Stockton in the process.

Rutgers-Camden got off to a hot start, holding a 4-1 lead with 23:43 left in the first half. The Ospreys then scored 11 straight goals to forge a 12-4 lead. Shultz tallied four of her goals during the run. The home team scored three of the final four goals of the half, as Stockton held a 13-7 margin at the break.

After the Scarlet Raptors scored the first goal of the second half at the 27:48 mark to cut the margin to 13-8. Ojeda then tallied the next two goals to start a 12 consecutive goal run for the Ospreys. With her third marker of the game and the 73rd of her career, Ojeda broke the career goal scoring mark of 72 set by Lauren Ivancich (2015-16).

Freshmen Mary Carroll (Marlton/Cherokee) and Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.), along with senior Melanie Patterson (Jackson/Jackson Liberty) tallied twice each. Jessica Catalioto (Ringwood/Lakeland Regional) also scored her first career goal during the spurt.

In addition to her three goals, Ojeda scooped four ground balls and grabbed three draw controls.  Danielle Graham (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) grabbed seven draw controls and joined Pascrell and Shultz with two caused turnovers each.

Pascrell now has 26 caused turnovers on the season, one off the single season mark, set last year by Tamara Torales (Basking Ridge/Ridge). Brooke Hallett (Absecon/Holy Spirit) made seven saves in net for the win.

Rutgers-Camden was led by Claire Gailliout and Cara Racobaldo with three goals each. Goalkeeper Brittany Watson made 16 saves.

Stockton will travel to King Point, NY for their next game on Saturday. The Ospreys will face the United State Merchant Marine Academy in a non-conference tilt beginning at 1 pm.
