Stockton Runs by Bryn Athyn 22-8; Swedlund Breaks Single Season Goal Mark

Bryn Athyn, PA – Stockton University (14-2, 5-0 CSAC) had a big day offensively and the Ospreys defense shut down the home team down in the second half, allowing just one goal, as Stockton rolled past Bryn Athyn (4-8, 3-3 CSAC) by a 22-8 score on Saturday afternoon.  With the win, Stockton clinches the number one seed for the upcoming CSAC (Colonial States Athletic Conference) playoffs.

Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) led the Ospreys with seven goals while Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) scored five times and set the single-season goals mark during the game with 71 markers on the year. Freshman Dante Poli (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) dished a career-high seven assists.

Anderson got the game rolling with his first goal of the game at the 13:38 mark of the first period. After the Lions tied the contest at 1-1, the Ospreys rattled off nine straight tallies to take a commanding 10-1 lead after one period of play.

Two more goals by Anderson and pair each by Swedlund and Poli highlighted the spurt. Swedlund's record breaking tally came with 4:38 left in the period on an assist from J.J. McKenna (Barnegat/Barnegat). Swedlund broke the single season record of 66 set by Kevin Logue (1997).

The home team responded in the second period to close the gap on Stockton. After Anderson scored the first goal of the quarter to push the advantage to 11-1 with 11:47 left in the half, the Lions tallied the next five markers to close the margin to 11-6 with 4:16 left in the second quarter.

Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury) and Anderson slowed the rally, before Bryn Athyn scored with nine seconds left in the half to send the teams to the break with Stockton leading 13-7. The second half was all Stockton as the defense clamped down and allowed just one goal in the final 30 minutes.

The Ospreys tallied three goals in the third period, that included defenseman Logan Holleritter's (Oak Ridge/Jefferson Twp.) second goal of the year. The Ospreys put the game away with six more scores, without allowing a goal in the last stanza, for the 22-8 final. McKenna, Anderson, Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern), Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) and two more by Swedlund set the final score.

Stockton dished 18 assists on the 22 goals on the day. In addition to Poli, Anderson had three assists for a 10-point day, as did Poli with three goals, with Swedlund adding two helpers. Matt Thermann (Spring Lake Hts./Manasquan) won 21-31 face-offs and led all players with 20 ground balls.

Holleritter caused three turnovers, with goalkeeper Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) made seven saves, allowing just one goal in the second half.

The Lions were led by James Vandergrift with three goals and Cameron Leech dishing four assists. Netminder Brad DePasquale made seven saves.

Stockton will finish the regular season on Tuesday, when the Ospreys will travel to Hackettstown to face Centenary College. Game time is set for 4pm.
