Stockton Holds Off Ramapo for Fifth Win in a Row

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (8-2, 1-0 NJAC) built a six-goal lead in the first half and held off a late charge by Ramapo (6-3, 0-1) to post its fifth consecutive win, 14-13, in the conference opener for both teams. Gaby Ojeda (Galloway/Absegami) led the Ospreys with a game-high four goals.
 
Abbey Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) and Casey Shultz (Sewell/Washington Twp.) each contributed three goals and an assist. Nicole Jandras (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) tossed in three goals as well.
 
Ojeda scored her first marker 1:30 into the game to spark a run of five straight Stockton goals in the opening eight minutes. Shultz netted two while Jandras and Ojeda added one apiece as the Ospreys raced out to a 5-0 lead before Ramapo answered with a pair of goals 35 seconds apart to make it 5-2.
 
Stockton then tallied three straight counters for its biggest lead of the game at 8-2. Danielle Graham (Cherry Hill/CH West) got on the board with an assist by Shultz, followed by goals from Yannacone and Jandras.
 
After the Roadrunners got two back, Yannacone and Ojeda found the net in a 51-second span to boost the lead to 10-4. Ramapo chipped away with four straight goals to pull within 10-8 before Yannacone halted the run with 55 seconds left in the first half, giving Stockton an 11-8 lead at the break.
 
The offensive pace slowed considerably in the second half, with the teams combining for just eight goals. The Ospreys outscored Ramapo 3-2 in the first 17 minutes of the period on goals by Ojeda and Jandras, then Shultz with an assist by Yannacone for a 14-10 lead with 12:54 to play.
 
Stockton went scoreless the rest of the way. Ramapo potted three goals in a row, with the last one cutting the lead down to one at 14-13 with 4:57 on the clock. The Osprey defense took over from there, forcing two turnovers and not allowing a shot the rest of way to seal the one-goal victory for Stockton's fifth straight win.
 
Stockton goalkeeper Brooke Hallett (Absecon/Holy Spirit) made eight saves while Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.) chipped in with a team-high three caused turnovers plus three ground balls. Mary Carroll (Marlton/Cherokee) grabbed a team-high six draw controls and dished two assists.
 
Ava Rinaldi and Gabi Davison paced Ramapo with three goals and one assist apiece. Shannon Eagan and Nicole Jaskot each scored three times. Roadrunners' goalie Alexandra Kerwin finished with 11 saves.
 
Stockton will play another NJAC game on Tuesday when the Ospreys visit Rowan University for a 7 pm matchup.
