Madison, N.J. – Stockton University (0-1) opened the 2019 season with a match against SUNY New Paltz (1-0) at the Drew University Fall Festival. The game was scoreless for over 82 minutes before the Hawks broke through for the game's only goal to deal the Ospreys a 1-0 defeat.
Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) got the start in goal for Stockton and made two saves in the match. New Paltz outshot the Ospreys 8-6, with six different players registering one shot apiece for Stockton.
New Paltz goalie Marc DePasquale made saves on one shot on goal apiece by
John Maxted (Middletown/Middletown) and
Jon Schwab (Scotch Plains/SP-Fanwood) to blank the Ospreys.
James Maltes snapped the scoreless duel with 7:29 remaining in the second half as he scored following a New Paltz corner kick. Stockton pressed for the tying goal late, recording two shots and two corner kicks in the last five minutes, but the Ospreys could not convert and they fell 1-0.
Stockton will face either Drew or Centenary in the consolation game of the Drew Fall Festival tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
