Stockton Rolls to 6-1 Win over Centenary

Madison, N.J. – Stockton University (1-1) scored four goals in the first half and cruised to its first win of the season 6-1 over Centenary (0-2) in the consolation game of the Drew Fall Festival. Ten Ospreys found their way onto the scoresheet, highlighted by three who scored their first career goal.
 
Michael Echeverria (Linden/St. Joseph) got the Ospreys on the board early with an assist by Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Hts./Hasbrouck Hts.) just 8:09 into the game. A little over two minutes later, Max Bond (Cherry Hill/CH West) tapped in a feed from John Maxted (Middletown/Middletown North) to make it 2-0.
 
Senior back Drew Ruble (Medford/Shawnee) scored his first career goal on a header with assists by Kyle Leach (Pitman/Pitman) and Gjeli on a restart to increase the lead to 3-0. Freshman Brendan Deal (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) followed with his first college goal on a breakaway and fellow rookie Ian Byrne (Lanoka Harbor/Lacey Twp.) assisted for his first career point.
 
Centenary's Tom Parry got the Cyclones on the board in the last minute of the half and Stockton led 4-1 at the break. Bobby Riordan (Tinton Falls/Monmouth) buried a penalty kick at 74:35 for the Ospreys' fifth goal. Five minutes later, Sean O'Leary (Bordentown/Bordentown) booted a free kick into the net for his first career goal to close out the 6-1 triumph.
 
Stockton goalkeeper Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) started and made two saves in 72:28 to earn the win. Travis Yates (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) played the final 17:32 without facing a shot.
 
Stockton will play its home opener on Wednesday, September 4 when the Ospreys host #17 ranked Franklin & Marshall at 7:00 PM.
