Union, N.J. – Stockton University (1-0) dominated its season opener 7-0 over New England College (0-1) at the Kean Cougar Classic. After scoring once in the first half, the Ospreys broke the game open with six goals in the second half.
Freshman
Bri Bocelli (Marlton/Cherokee) scored her first two career goals and
Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany), Stockton's leading scorer last year, contributed a goal and an assist. The Ospreys outshot NEC 23-1 in the blowout.
LeDonne got Stockton on the board with an assist by
Brenna Clowney (Mullica Hill/Clearview) with 12:20 gone in the game. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Ospreys wasted little time in the second half, exploding for four goals in the first seven minutes.
Kiersten Reszkowski (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) started the outburst 1:19 into the second stanza and
Susan Porambo (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) made it 3-0 with an assist by LeDonne just 1:12 later.
Michelle Sander (Ewing/Notre Dame) potted a penalty kick at 51:24 and Bocelli followed with her first career goal only 16 seconds later, assisted by
Madison Dorney (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.). Bocelli struck again at 68:59 and fellow newcomer
Julia Picciallo (Roxbury/Roxbury) earned her first career point with the assist.
Freshman
Lauren Woolbert (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) later tacked on her first career goal with 56 seconds remaining in the game to cap the 7-0 rout.
A pair of newcomers shared the shutout in goal. Starter
Olivia Harris (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) played the first 58:55 in her college debut without facing a shot. Junior college transfer
Jennifer Devault (Mullica Hill/Clearview) made one save in the last 31:05.
Stockton will continue play at the Kean Cougar Classic tomorrow with a matchup against College of Staten Island at 1:00 PM.
