Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (1-0, 1-0 NJAC) opened New Jersey Athletic Conference play with a 6-3 victory over Rutgers-Camden (0-1, 0-1). The Ospreys took two out of three in doubles and then four of six in singles.
Freshmen
Elena Nunez (Madrid, Spain/Rye (N.Y.)) and
Audrey van Schalkwyk (Haddon Hts./Paul VI) teamed for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Hailey Johnson (Middletown/Academy of Law & Public Safety) and
Sarah Richardson (Atco/Hammonton) paired for a narrow 8-7 win at No. 3 doubles as they prevailed 7-4 in a tiebreaker.
Nunez posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and Richardson contributed a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 singles.
Brenna Samuels (Salem/Salem) outlasted her opponent 6-3, 5-7, 10-7 in a super-tiebreaker at No. 4 singles while
Katelyn Emick (West Deptford/West Deptford) won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles for the Ospreys.
Stockton will host perennial NJAC champion The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, September 4 at 4:00 PM.
