Reading, PA – Stockton University (2-0) picked their second consecutive victory to open the season, with a 3-1 win over Albright (0-2) on Sunday afternoon.
Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph's) scored twice in the first eight minutes to lead the Ospreys.
Â
Morganti got the Ospreys off to a quick start when she potted her second goal of the season at 5:19 for a 1-0 advantage for Stockton.
Issy Gilhooley (Ocean City/Ocean City) fed Morganti who hit the back of the cage.
Â
Just 2:41 later, Morganti found herself one-on-one with the Albright goalkeeper and scored again to push the lead to 2-0. Both teams clamped down on defense for the rest of the half and went to the break with the Ospreys holding the two-goal margin.
Â
After a scoreless third period, freshman
Madison Maguire (Woolwich/Kingsway) scored her first career marker to extend the lead to 3-0, with just under seven minutes remaining in the contest.
Madison Dancisin (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) got the assist on the rebound goal by Maguire.
Â
Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) was aiming for her first shutout of the season for Stockton, but the Lions had other ideas. With 3:32 remaining, Jennifer Crumling scored after a right-side crossing pass from Bailey Lehman to spoil the whitewash attempt. Stockton then ran the clock out to preserve the 3-1 victory.
Â
The Ospreys held a 19-8 shot advantage over the Lions with 14 attempts on net. Stockton also had a 9-2 advantage on penalty corners to keep the home team on the defensive.
Â
Gilligan earned her second win of the season, kicking out six shots on the day. Her counterpart Brynne Schoppe made 11 saves in net for Albright.
Â
Stockton will have some time off until their next contest. The Ospreys will travel to Hoboken to face Stevens Tech, in the second of three consecutive road tilts, next Saturday September 7. Game time is set for 5pm.
