Stockton Improves to 5-0 with 2-1 Victory over Eastern

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (5-0) remained unbeaten on the season with a 2-1 victory over Eastern University (2-3) on Saturday afternoon. Three of Stockton's five wins this year have come by a slim one-goal margin.

Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph's) extended her point streak to five games with a goal in the first quarter. Morganti was tripped inside the arc, resulting in a penalty stroke that she buried for her fifth goal of the season. The tally gave Stockton a 1-0 lead just over 11 minutes into the game.

In the second quarter, Eastern's Harper Sellers knotted the game at 1-1 with a tap-in at the left post following a penalty corner. Just over a minute later, Madison Dancisin (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) scored the goal the proved to be the game-winner.

The play started with some excellent stickhandling by Issy Gilhooley (Ocean City/Ocean City). Gilhooley sent the ball into the arc, where Dancisin deflected it past the Eastern goalie as she charged out to cut down the angle. The tally was Dancisin's second of the season and Gilhooley earned her second assist of the year.

Stockton protected its 2-1 edge for just over 33 minutes of game action to earn the victory. The stout defense of Gilhooley, Casey Cordonna (Barrington/Haddon Hts.), Lauryn Flynn (Warren Grove/Southern Regional) and Hannah Wescoat (Upper Deerfield/Cumberland) fended off the Eastern attack.

Ospreys' goalkeeper Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) anchored the defense with five saves. Gilligan's best stops were a point-blank save on a rebound in the second quarter and a deflection off her mask in the third period.

Eastern outshot Stockton 8-5 and held an 11-4 advantage in corners, including nine tries in the second half, but the Osprey defense held fast. Eagles' goalie Kylie Troyer finished with two saves in the game.

Stockton will play at home again on Tuesday when the Ospreys host Alvernia at 7 p.m.
