Stockton Stays Unbeaten with 2-1 Overtime Thriller

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-0) remained undefeated, as the Ospreys downed Alvernia University (4-3) by a 2-1 score in double overtime on Tuesday night. Corinn Guilford (Buena/St. Joseph's) scored the game winner just 13 seconds into the second extra period for the win.

The Ospreys got off to a quick start in the game as Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph's) scored her sixth goal of the season into the cage for a 1-0 lead. Her blast from the right side gave Stockton the early lead. It remained that way through the rest of the half as the defenses stiffened on both sides.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Golden Wolves scored the equalizer in the fourth period, when Alyssa Krady tipped in a pass in front for the 1-1 tie. Felicia Getz fed the pass for the tally. Once again, the team's defensive fronts kept the game knotted as time ran out in regulation.

The Ospreys came close to winning the contest during the first overtime. At the 7:38 mark, Kassidy Wentzell (Hammonton/St. Joseph's) fired two shots that were kicked out, then Issy Gilhooley (Ocean City/Ocean City) had another attempt saved less than a minute later.

Alvernia had one attempt with five minutes remaining, that Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) swatted away to keep the game tied at 1-1.

Guilford then gave Stockton the victory 13 seconds in the final frame. After the faceoff to begin the period, Gilhooley raced down the field and found Guilford in front. Her low shot to the right corner found its way in and the Ospreys captured the 2-1 victory.

Gilligan came up with another fine game with six saves in earning her sixth win of the season. Alvernia netminder Emma Beamsesderfer kicked out five shots.

Stockton's next game will be a road tilt against Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 2pm.
