Stockton Continues Best Start Ever with 2-0 Win

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (8-0) scored twice in the second half and defeated Gwynedd Mercy (6-3) 2-0 to continue its best start in school history. The Ospreys, who received votes in this week's NFHCA national poll, have won eight consecutive games since the start of the season.

Corinn Guilford (Buena/St. Joseph's) and Issy Gilhooley (Ocean City/Ocean City) scored one goal apiece. Casey Cordonna (Barrington/Haddon Hts.) assisted on both tallies.

Each team registered three shots in an evenly played first half between a pair of squads that came into the game with a combined 13-2 record. The scoreless duel remained until the final minute of the third quarter. From near the right sideline, Cordonna sent a long ball into the circle where Guilford tapped it in at the left post to put the Ospreys on top 1-0.

Stockton later added an insurance goal with 9:29 remaining in regulation. On a penalty corner, Cordonna inserted the ball to Gilhooley, whose blast from the top of the arc found the back of the cage to make it 2-0. The Ospreys did not allow a shot the rest of the way to clinch its second straight 2-0 shutout.

Stockton goaltender Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) made three saves to post her second straight shutout, third of the season and ninth in an Osprey uniform. Gilligan moved into a tie for second on Stockton's career shutout list.

Gwynedd Mercy goalie Abi Kennedy finished with four saves for the Griffins.

Stockton will play at home again on Saturday when the Ospreys host Cabrini at 1 p.m.
