Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (14-2, 2-0 NJAC) cruised to their seventh win in a row as the Ospreys downed Hunter College (6-7) 3-0 by scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-19 on Thursday night.
Charlotte Leon (Northport, NY/Northport) led the squad with nine kills, with
Franceska Gustave (Edgewater/Leonia) tallying a season-high six blocks at the net.
Stockton sprinted out to a 12-5 lead to start the match but the Hawks responded with an 7-0 run to tie the set at 12-12. After a Stockton timeout, the Ospreys rattled off six of the next seven points for an 18-13 margin, forcing the Hawks into a timeout but to no avail. The Ospreys closed out the set at 25-15 as Leon and
Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) spiked four kills each.
The Ospreys never let the second set get close as they ran out to leads of 7-1 and 18-8 before ending the second frame at 25-16. Leon and
Julie Kohlhoff (West Islip, NY/West Islip) had two kills each, with Kohlhoff adding a solo block.
The Hawks tried to gather some momentum in the third set as they fought back on every Osprey attempt. With the score tied at 10-10, Stockton finally was able to put some daylight between the two squads. Stretching out to an 18-14 lead led by a pair of kills by
Sarah Walsh (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) helped Stockton gain the advantage.
The Ospreys were able to eventually finish off the match with Walsh spiking a kill and Sullivan serving two aces to prevail 25-19 and stretch the winning streak to seven straight matches.
Sullivan had seven kills, three aces, 22 assists and a .636 hitting percentage on the night. Walsh and Kohlhoff spiked five kills each, with
Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas) leading the Osprey backline with nine digs.
Christie Louer (Clifton/Clifton),
Grace Brandt (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) and Sullivan all scooped five digs each. Louer led the team with four aces while
Caity Ullmer (Midland Park/Midland Park) helped Gustave at the net with three blocks.
Stockton will return to NJAC play for their next match when the Ospreys will travel to New Jersey City University on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
