Stockton Upended for First Time This Season

Brooklyn, N.Y. – After opening with four straight wins, Stockton University (4-1) came out on the short end of an early-season matchup of unbeaten teams. The Ospreys dropped the first two sets to NYU (5-0) and could not recover, falling 3-1 for their first setback of the year.

Christie Louer (Clifton/Clifton) led Stockton with team highs of 11 kills and 16 digs. Julie Kohlhoff (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and Caity Ullmer (Midland Park/Midland Park) tallied nine kills apiece while Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) dished 36 assists.

The first set went back and forth and was tied at 17 when NYU scored three straight points to take the lead for good on the way to topping Stockton 25-22. After falling behind 8-4 in the second set, the Ospreys pulled within 14-13 but could not overtake NYU and were downed 25-19.

Stockton fought back in the third set to extend the match. Two kills apiece by Haley Green (Springville, Utah/Maple Mountain) and Charlotte Leon (Northport, N.Y./Northport) highlighted a 10-2 run that propelled the Ospreys to a 25-18 victory.

NYU seized back the momentum at the start of the fourth set and Stockton faced an early 8-3 deficit. The Ospreys closed within 9-7 before the Violets reeled off six straight points to make it 15-7. The spurt sealed the outcome and the match ended 25-17.

Stockton will play two more matches in Brooklyn tomorrow, taking on Skidmore at 10 a.m. and Springfield at 2 p.m.
