Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stockton Falls to McDaniel 50-44

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (4-6, 1-4 NJAC) played their first game in nearly three weeks, but dropped their fourth straight game, 50-44 to McDaniel College (3-5) on Thursday afternoon. Emily Donzanti (Toms River/Toms River South) led the Ospreys with 11 points, while Kiley Gelston (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) set a career high with a game-high 15 rebounds.

Stockton took an early lead at 13-11 after one period of play on the strength of four points each by freshman Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) and Hailee Porricelli (Howell/Freehold Twp.). The Ospreys forged a 22-21 lead at the half by holding the Green Terror to just 2-16 (12.5%) shooting during the second frame.

The visitors kept the game close forcing Stockton into 15 first half turnovers and tallying 10 points off the miscues during the first half.

The home squad stretched the lead to 30-26 at the 7:27 mark of the third quarter, making it Stockton's largest lead of the day. McDaniel answered with an 11-3 run to end the period, giving the Green Terror a 37-33 advantage.

McDaniel kept the momentum to start the final period, adding eight straight markers to extend the run to 19-3 and forcing four more turnovers for a 45-33 margin. Gelston halted the spurt briefly with a free throw, but 28.6-percent shooting by Stockton in the period kept the Ospreys from gaining ground.

Five free throws down the stretch by McDaniel offset a three-point basket by Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City), the only three of the game for Stockton, to set the final score at 50-44 in favor of the Green Terror.

Donzanti, who dished a game-high four assists, was the only Osprey in double figures, with Wright and Alves scoring seven points each. Alves also grabbed seven rebounds as Stockton held a 52-40 margin on the glass.

McDaniel was led by Mallory Conroy who posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jamese Word pilfered a game-high five steals on the defensive end and scored nine points.

Stockton will travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA for their next game as the Ospreys will face Wilkes University on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 3 pm.
