Dallas, Pa. – Stockton University (8-4, 5-0 NJAC) led by one with 37 seconds to go but gave up the last four points of the game and fell to Misericordia (4-7) 65-62 in a non-conference road game.
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) led the Ospreys with 17 points.
Flanders also contributed four rebounds, a team-high three assists and two steals.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) tossed in 12 points followed by
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) with 10 markers. Stockton was outscored 20-6 at the free throw line and yielded 25 points off 23 turnovers.
The Ospreys struggled to hit the mark in the first half, shooting 26.7 percent from the floor (8-30). They managed just 11 points in the first 14:32 and trailed 26-11. Campbell scored nine points down the stretch to help trim the deficit to nine, 33-24, at the break. He finished with 12 first-half points.
Stockton heated up in the second half, connecting at 51.7 percent from the field (15-29).
Luciano Lubrano (Ocean City/Ocean City) scored seven points while Taylor and
Tariq Baker (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Anthonys) added five apiece during a 19-2 run that rocketed the Ospreys into a 49-44 lead with 11:09 on the clock.
Misericordia steadied themselves and fought back to take a 59-53 lead with 2:20 to play. The Ospreys trailed 61-59 when Flanders was fouled on a three-point try at the 37-second mark. The sophomore came through in the clutch and drained all three from the stripe to give Stockton a 62-61 edge.
The Cougars went back on top 63-62 with two free throws with 17 seconds left. Stockton turned the ball over on its ensuing possession and two more from the line sealed the 65-62 defeat for the Ospreys.
Stockton will resume NJAC play with a road game at Kean University on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
