Stockton Falls to William Paterson 59-54

Wayne, N.J. – Stockton University (8-12, 3-10 NJAC) went on the road and suffered a 59-54 setback in a conference game at William Paterson (8-11, 7-6). Emily Donzanti (Toms River/TR South) led three Ospreys in double figures with a season-high 17 points.
 
Donzanti also swiped a game-high four steals. Freshman Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Alves shot 5-6 from the floor and also led all players with three blocks.
 
Hailee Porricelli (Howell/Freehold Twp.) sank two of Stockton's three three-pointers and finished with 10 points for the Ospreys. Stockton forced 22 turnovers and converted them into 21 points off those miscues. The Ospreys also outrebounded the host Pioneers 40-33.
 
Donzanti scored Stockton's first five points to stake the team to a 5-1 lead, but WPU pulled ahead and topped the Ospreys 16-10 after one quarter. In the second period, Donzanti sank two free throws to get Stockton within 22-19, however the Pioneers doubled the Ospreys 10-5 the rest of the quarter for a 32-24 count at halftime.
 
After falling behind 37-26 in the third quarter, Stockton got within 40-34 on a layup by Alves with three minutes left in the period. William Paterson boosted the margin back to 11 before a Donzanti layup in the final seconds made it 49-40 after three.
 
Although Stockton trailed by as much as 12 in the fourth stanza, the Ospreys closed the gap to 55-51 on another layup by Donzanti with 47 seconds to go. The Pioneers responded with four straight free throws before a late three-pointer by Porricelli set the final score at 59-54.
 
Stockton will host NJAC co-leader Rowan University on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The game is part of Stockton Athletics' celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day.
