Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (2-0) scored the first three goals of the game and never looked in its home opener as the Ospreys dominated St. Joseph's-Long Island (0-3) 18-4. Seven different Stockton players scored goals in the game.
Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.) led the Ospreys with a game-high five goals followed by
Casey Shultz (Sewell/Washington Twp.) with four goals and three assists for seven points. Freshman
Jade Rivera (Toms River/Jackson Liberty) tossed in three goals.
Jennifer Toal (Pine Beach/Toms River South) opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the game and Pascrell followed with two straight markers for an early 3-0 lead. Shultz scored 36 seconds after St. Joseph's-LI got on the board and Pascrell followed with her third goal in the first 12 minutes for a 5-1 lead.
The Golden Eagles got one back, but Stockton broke the game open with four straight tallies. Toal started the run and then freshman
Remi Reinhardt (Wall Twp./Wall) potted her first career goal. Shultz and Rivera hit the net for a commanding 9-2 advantage. Reinhardt later capped the first-half scoring with the Ospreys on top 10-3.
Just 21 seconds into the second half, Shultz began a run of seven straight goals by the Ospreys as they held St. Joseph's-LI scoreless for over 23 minutes. She scored again two minutes later, followed by counters from Pascrell,
Nicole Jandras (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) and
Holly Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional).
Pascrell tossed in her fifth goal of the game and Rivera made it 17-3 with 7:50 remaining. The teams each scored once the rest of the way, with Rivera's third of the game ending the scoring in the 18-4 Stockton triumph.
Ospreys' goalkeeper
Stevie Ader (Califon/Voorhees) earned the win with four saves in the first half. Freshman
Jordan Hawkes (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) made her college debut in the second half and registered two saves.
Jessica Catalioto (Ringwood/Lakeland) topped the squad with five draw controls and five ground balls.
Melissa Newman and Jordyn Juvelier scored two goals apiece for St. Joseph's-LI. Goalkeeper Olivia Vetter made 11 saves for the Golden Eagles.
Stockton will continue a three-game homestand on Tuesday when the Ospreys host New Paltz at 4 p.m.
