Stockton Topped by Rowan 2-1 in OT

Glassboro, N.J. – Stockton University (8-6-1, 4-2 NJAC) scored first but was overtaken by Rowan University (9-1-1, 4-1-1) for a 2-1 setback in overtime. The result, coupled with Rutgers-Newark's win, slid the Ospreys down two spots into fourth place in the conference.

Sebi Morrello (North Caldwell/West Essex) got on the board with 11:36 remaining in the first half, scoring his third goal in nine games played this season off a scrum in front of the net. Dante Montesinos (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) assisted on the marker.

The Ospreys made the 1-0 lead stand up until the 65th minute when Chad Yates netted the equalizer for Rowan. The teams combined for nine shots the rest of the way, including a shot on goal by Stockton newcomer Mike McKeown (Blackwood/Highland) with 28 seconds left in the regulation, but the game went to overtime knotted 1-1.

Rowan wasted little time in OT as Yates scored again just 2:17 into the extra period to deal the Ospreys the 2-1 setback. Stockton goalkeeper Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) made four saves and James Weinberg countered with four stops of his own for the Profs.

Up next, Stockton will host Rutgers-Newark, which leapfrogged the Ospreys into third place tonight, in another key NJAC showdown on Saturday at 1 p.m.
