Stockton Falls to Rowan 3-1

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (10-3-2, 4-1-1 NJAC) got off to a slow start and fell to Rowan University (10-3, 5-1) 3-1 in a matchup for second place in the conference. The Ospreys suffered their first defeat in six NJAC games thus far.

Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) scored the lone goal for Stockton, which came during the second half. The tally was her third of the season.

Rowan's Jessica Logan put the Ospreys behind 1-0 just 1:51 into the game and Bethany Sansone later made it a 2-0 Stockton deficit with less than 11 minutes gone. The teams registered six shots apiece in the first half.

Stockton had two quality chances during the period. Allie Magas (Lambertville/South Hunterdon) volleyed a shot that was knocked off the goal line by a Rowan defender. Three minutes later, Rylee Getter (Galloway/Absegami) nearly scored on a corner kick, but her header was just a little off the mark.

Stockton pushed its players forward throughout the second half in an effort to rally, finally cashing in with 13:58 remaining. LeDonne ran onto a long free kick by Sydney Williams (Millville/Millville) that traveled into the box from near midfield, and LeDonne deposited the ball into the open side to halve the margin to 2-1.

Just under four minutes later, Nina Carlson scored an insurance goal for Rowan on a counterattack with 10:02 on the clock to seal the outcome as the Profs downed Stockton 3-1.

Ospreys' goalkeeper Kylee Sullivan (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) made three saves and her counterpart Bristol Puzzuto also finished with three stops in earning the win for Rowan.

After three straight home games, Stockton will hit the road for an NJAC match at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
