Stockton Falls to #6 Rowan 2-0

Glassboro, NJ – Stockton University (7-6, 0-4 NJAC) played hard but fell to Rowan University (11-2, 5-0 NJAC) by a 2-0 score on Wednesday night. Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph's) led the team with three shots on goal for the contest. The Profs are ranked number six nationally in the NFHCA National Coaches Poll.

The Ospreys held the high-powered offense of the Profs scoreless in the first half, despite being outshot by a 10-4 margin and a 4-1 margin in penalty corners. Tori Wilson (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) came the closest to scoring for Stockton at 19:50. Wilson took a pass off a penalty corner from Morganti but clanged a shot off the post and kept the game scoreless.

Morganti also came close to hitting the net but a defensive save with 48 seconds left in the half, kept the Ospreys off the board.

Rowan turned up the pressure and finally broke through in the third period.  Rachel Stone scored for a 1-0 lead at 42:05. Krystyna Hovell tallied at the buzzer for the 2-0 lead that would turn out to be the final score. The Profs outshot Stockton 12-1 in the frame with five penalty corners.

The final period became academic as Rowan clamped down on defense allowing just two attempts but none on goal. The Ospreys were not able to pout a shot on net in the second 30 minutes of play.

Freshman goalkeeper Alley Harris (Mullica Hill/Delsea) made a career high 11 saves in net for the Ospreys. Fellow frosh Makenna LeHenaff (Burlington/Burlington Twp.) helped by making her second defensive save of the season. Abby Hainsworth made two saves in posting the shutout for the Profs.

Stockton will play their first of three straight home matches to end the season on Saturday. The Ospreys will face Montclair State for a 1 pm contest.
