Stockton Blanks Montclair State 1-0

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (8-6, 1-4 NJAC) earned their first conference victory of the season with a 1-0 shutout of Montclair State (6-9, 1-4 NJAC). The game was the first of a three-game homestand that will conclude the regular season.

Freshman Alexandria Palumbo (Mantua/Clearview) not only scored the game-winning goal, but she also made two defensive saves on Montclair State penalty corners to help preserve the shutout.

Palumbo made her first defensive save just 5:50 into the game to keep the contest scoreless during an opening period in which each team registered five shots and the squads combined for nine penalty corners.

With just 15 seconds left in the second quarter, Palumbo stole the ball from a Montclair State defender and blasted a shot into the cage. The goal was Palumbo's seventh of the season and came on the only shot by either team in the second period.

The Red Hawks outshot Stockton 3-1 and each team earned three penalty corners during the scoreless third stanza, and the Ospreys took the one-goal edge into the final period. Palumbo came to the rescue again on an MSU penalty corner early in the fourth quarter.

Lindsey Bicher fired a shot from the top of the arc that deflected high into the air and appeared headed for the cage. Palumbo batted down the ball at shoulder height to protect the lead and help clinch the 1-0 triumph.

Freshman goaltender Alley Harris (Mullica Hill/Clearview) earned her first career shutout with four saves. Montclair goalie Lauren Pickul finished with two stops for the visitors.

Stockton's back four of Makenna LeHenaff (Burlington/Burlington Twp.), Gracee Roberts (Monroeville/Woodstown), Kelsey Andrus (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) and Rhian Freire (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) contributed strong defensive play in helping the Ospreys post their fourth shutout of the season.

Up next, Stockton will host Albright in a non-conference game on October 28 at 7 p.m.
