Stockton Downed 3-1 by Albright

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (8-7) was downed by Albright College (6-10) 3-1 in the next-to-last game of the regular season for the Ospreys. Alexandria Palumbo (Mantua/Clearview) was the goal scorer for Stockton.

Palumbo gave the Ospreys an early 1-0 lead on a penalty corner just 7:19 into the game as she took a pass from Madison Dancisin (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) and flipped a high shot into the cage. Palumbo has scored in five of the last six games and has eight goals on the season.

Albright answered with 47 seconds left in the first quarter as Olivia Scholl netted the tying goal. Stockton then outshot the Lions 8-1 in the second quarter but Laurel Gingrich scored the only marker of the period to give Albright a 2-1 edge.

The teams registered two shots apiece during the third period and the contest went to the fourth quarter with the Ospreys trailing by one. Stockton pressed the attack with eight shots in the final stanza but could not break through. Olivia Lorah added an insurance goal with 7:32 remaining to end the scoring in the 3-1 Stockton defeat.

The Ospreys finished with a 19-5 advantage in shots and 13-6 in penalty corners. Dancisin fired a game-high seven shots followed by Palumbo and Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph) with five apiece.

Starting goaltender Alley Harris (Mullica Hill/Delsea) played the first half and Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) took over in the second half, making two saves. Veronica Heckman earned the win with 10 saves for Albright.

Stockton will close the season on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Ospreys host Kean University, which is 17-1 on the season and ranked fifth in the nation by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
