Stockton Defeats William Paterson 1-0

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (11-4-3, 5-1-2 NJAC) helped solidify its NJAC playoff position with a tight 1-0 win over William Paterson (7-8-0, 2-6-0) on Saturday afternoon. Susan Porambo (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) scored for the second straight game to give the Ospreys the victory that clinched a top-four seed for the NJAC Tournament.

The match started slowly with both teams trying to control the midfield, until Porambo netted the eventual game-winner. At the 12:07 mark, the senior was sent in by Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) for a close-in shot. Her first attempt was kicked out but Porambo gathered her own rebound, and her fourth tally of the season gave Stockton a 1-0 lead.

That would be the lone marker of the game as both sides fired three shots each in the first half, with Stockton putting two on net. In the second stanza, the squads again squeezed off three attempts each, with LeDonne getting one on net in the 84th minute. Her shot was denied by Pioneers' goalkeeper Erica Hickey.

Stockton's defense tightened in the final six minutes of regulation and made the only goal of the match stand up for the 1-0 win.

Kylee Sullivan (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) made two saves in posting her sixth shutout of the season, tying her for first in the NJAC in that category. Hickey kicked out three shots for the Pioneers.

Stockton will play their final regular season match against #1 and unbeaten The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night. The Lions are ranked first nationally by the United Soccer Coaches and the game will be played in Ewing, NJ and is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
