Radnor, Pa. – Stockton University (9-12) split its two matches at Cabrini University on Saturday. The Ospreys edged the Cavaliers (5-12) by a 3-2 score for the second time this season. Stockton then was right back on the court to face SUNY Cortland (15-2), which swept the Ospreys 3-0.
Charlotte Leon (Northport, N.Y./Northport) pounded a team-high 20 kills in the win over Cabrini to lead three Ospreys in double figures.
Emma Capriglione (Tuckerton/Pinelands) spiked 15 kills and topped Stockton with 25 digs.
Haley Green (Springville, Utah/Maple Mountain) added 10 kills.
Alice Brandt (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) chipped in with a season-high 27 assists plus 15 digs while
Sophia Marziello (Haddonfield/Paul VI) scooped 24 digs. Leon and
Jaylah Rolle (Williamstown/Williamstown) tied for match-high honors with seven blocks apiece in the extremely close contest.
Stockton led 23-22 in the first set but Cabrini scored three straight points to prevail 25-23. The Ospreys turned the tables in the second frame as they received the last three points on Cabrini hitting errors to even the match 28-26.
The third set was tied 17-17 until Cabrini closed with an 8-3 run to down Stockton 25-20. In the fourth stanza, a kill by Leon and an ace by Capriglione highlighted a five-point burst that gave the Ospreys a 14-8 lead, and they stayed in front to even the match again, 25-21.
Stockton trailed, 6-2, 8-3 and 11-7 in the fourth set before Leon spurred a comeback with three kills as the Ospreys used an 8-2 run overtake Cabrini and win the match with a 15-13 triumph.
Leon and Capriglione tallied eight and six kills respectively against Cortland.
Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) dealt 15 assists and Marziello snagged 11 digs. Brandt contributed seven digs and a team-high three aces. The set scores were 25-21, 25-11, 25-15 in favor of the Red Dragons.
Stockton will play a key NJAC match at Montclair State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Ospreys and Red Hawks currently are tied for second in the conference.
