St. David's, N.J. – Stockton University (1-3) fell to Eastern University (1-2) 66-48 in the first of two road games for the Ospreys this week. Although Stockton outscored the Eagles by five in the second half, they were unable to overcome a rough offensive start.
Freshman
Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Ospreys. LaRosa sank four three-pointers and went 6-7 (85.7%) at the free throw line.
LaRosa established early career highs for points and rebounds in a game. She has hit double figures in three straight contests, with 23, 10 and 24 points respectively.
Grace Sacco (Ocean City/Ocean City) totaled nine points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) swiped a game-high four steals to go with three points, four rebounds and two assists for the Ospreys.
A three-pointer by LaRosa and two free throws from
Aiya Underwood (Highland Park/Highland Park) were Stockton's only points during a first quarter in which they shot 1-12 (8.3%) from the field and fell behind 24-5. The Ospreys improved slightly with three field goals in the second period, but they trailed 37-14 at the half.
Stockton outscored Eastern 16-13 in the third stanza behind five points by freshman
Olivia Palmer (Holmdel/Holmdel) and four each from LaRosa and Sacco. LaRosa sank three three-pointers and a layup for 11 of Stockton's 18 fourth-quarter points, however the early deficit was too much to overcome and the Ospreys fell 66-48.
Ashya Gaddy topped Eastern with 23 points followed by Camila Sosa with 14 points plus four assists.
On Saturday, Stockton will head south to our nation's capital to take on Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. at 2 p.m.
