Stockton Falls to Rowan 53-45

Glassboro, N.J. – Stockton University (3-4, 1-1 NJAC) fell to Rowan University (2-4, 1-1 NJAC) 53-45 in the first of two straight NJAC road games for the Ospreys this week. Stockton entered the contest having won two in a row and three of their last four.

Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) produced career highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double at the college level. Grace Sacco (Ocean City/Ocean City) contributed nine points, a game-high four assists plus three steals to tie Morrone for game-high honors.

Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) grabbed 10 rebounds to tie Morrone for game high in that category. Freshman Jaiden Harris (Lindenwold/OLMA) established career highs with seven points and six boards. Points were hard to come by as the teams combined to shoot just 32-132 (24.2%) from the field, including 6-40 (15%) from three-point range.

The margin never grew higher than six during a close first half. Morrone sparked the Ospreys to a 6-0 lead in the opening three minutes with four points, a steal and an assist. Despite three more points by Morrone, Rowan rallied for a 14-13 edge after one period.

After falling behind 18-13 early in the second quarter, Stockton got within one at 22-21 on a Harris free throw with 1:47 left in the stanza. Two Rowan foul shots made the Osprey deficit 24-21 at the break.

Each team had seven field goals in the first half, with Rowan sinking one more three-pointer than Stockton and outscoring the Ospreys 8-6 at the line for the three-point edge.

The Profs reeled off nine straight points in third quarter to extend to 33-21 as Stockton went scoreless for the first 5:22 before a jumper by Morrone ended the drought. A layup by Harris in the final seconds of the period made it 37-28 Rowan after three.

Stockton pulled as close as five points twice in the fourth quarter, with the second time coming on a basket by Sacco for a 47-42 score with 3:13 remaining. The Profs answered by scoring the next six markers for an 11-point cushion that sealed the outcome as the Ospreys fell 53-45.

Dakota Adams paced Rowan with team highs of 11 points and nine rebounds. Nicole Mallard tossed in nine points for the Profs.

Stockton will be on the road again on Saturday for an NJAC matchup at Ramapo that tips off at 3 p.m.
