Doylestown, Pa. – Stockton University (5-6) took to the road for its first game in nearly three weeks but suffered a 53-46 setback at Delaware Valley (4-7).
Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) paced the Ospreys with a career-high 17 points.
Alves also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, one off her career high, for her fourth career double-double and added a game-high three blocks.
Sanaa Parks (Westampton/Rancocas Valley) produced the best game of her rookie year so far with career highs of eight points and 10 rebounds.
Stockton won the rebounding battle 48-44, including 20 offensive boards, but the Ospreys shot just 1-16 (6.3%) from three-point range and 7-21 (33%) at the free throw line. Parks went 4-8 (50%) from the floor, however her teammates were a combined 15-56 (26.8%).
Three early points by Alves sparked Stockton to a 7-2 lead.
Grace Sacco (Ocean City/Ocean City) tallied seven first-quarter points, including a three-point play in the final seconds that gave the Ospreys a 14-9 lead.
The second quarter proved to be the turning point as Stockton was outscored 13-2, with a layup by
Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.) the lone points of the period. Still, the deficit was just six, 22-16 at the half.
Another Jennings layup late in the third quarter brought Stockton within 33-32 but the Ospreys could not overtake the Aggies. Stockton trailed 46-37 with 6:14 remaining in the game before mounting one final rally try. Alves netted six straight points to close the gap to 46-43 but Delaware Valley stayed in front for the 53-46 final.
Haley Keenan paced the Aggies with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Lauren Moretti tossed in 14 points and grabbed eight caroms for the home team.
Stockton will play next on January 3 when the Ospreys host Wilkes University at 4 p.m.
