Stockton Falls 67-55 to TCNJ

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (0-2, 0-2 NJAC) fell for the second straight day to The College of New Jersey (2-0, 2-0 NJAC) by a 67-55 final on Saturday afternoon. Junior Emily Donzanti (Toms River/Toms River South) was the only Osprey in double figures with 14 points.

The Ospreys jumped out to a 15-14 lead after the first frame, with freshman Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.) leading the balanced scoring with six points. Four Ospreys tallied markers during the quarter, with Donzanti and Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) adding four points each.

The Lions rebounded to take a 32-26 halftime advantage, outscoring Stockton 18-11 during the second period of play. The third period unraveled again for the Ospreys. For the second straight day, Stockton had difficulty putting the ball in the basket during the third quarter, scoring just seven points on 2-16 (12.5%) shooting and trailing 48-33 after three stanzas.

Alves and freshman Jordyn Madigan (Toms River/Toms River East) scored a pair each, with Theresa Besso (Morganville/Marlboro) scoring her first points as an Osprey with a three-pointer.

TCNJ pushed the lead up to 19 with 5:58 remaining in the final quarter before Stockton made one final push. A 14-2 run over a span of 4:01 cut the margin to 58-51 in favor of the visitors. Junior Nalya Hill (Bloomfield/DePaul Catholic) led the surge with five points during the spurt. That was as close as Stockton would come as TCNJ finished out the game, winning 67-55.

In addition to her team-high in points, Donzanti tied Madigan with three assists each, while Madigan pilfered a game-high four steals. Alves grabbed nine rebounds to lead the team.

For the Lions, Shannon Devitt posted game highs of 32 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocks. Teammate Julia Setaro added 16 markers and Emily Cimilluca dished three assists and had three steals to top TCNJ.
